Odette England
Motivated by the ability photography has to speak of history, memory and identity within natural landscapes, Odette England’s work explores time, existence and visual perception through the relation of distance, structure and balance beyond the frame.
Klettur, Pappir, Skaeri (Rock, Paper, Scissors) are photographic images that seek to simply and elegantly explore changing light and time in the landscape, as random selections made by the environmental trinity of earth, water and air. Unlike nature, the two-person hand game of Rock, Paper, Scissors can be played with skill if the game extends of many sessions, as a player can often recognise and exploit the non-random behaviour of the opponent. In nature, however, there are greater, unseen forces at play.
