Paul Hazelton
Cotton Woolly Mammoth
The remains of mammoths have been variously attributed; from giant underground mole-like animals that died upon emerging from their burrows to human giants or from elephants to the biblical beast of the land - the behemoth.
Using a skinned and decimated mammoth cuddly toy, Paul Hazelton creates Cotton Woolly Mammoth, a splayed mythical ghost of woolly stuffing suspended in space. The piece, displayed like a trophy skin, appears to disappear before our eyes, reminding us of a world humankind decimates.
