WINDscale is a wind controlled video installation based on the Beaufort Wind Scale. Live video of an anemometer in the landscape is effected by an interference pattern generated in accordance to wind speed; as wind speed increases so does the pixellation of the image. Each day a new timelapse video will be uploaded to this page recording the wind from the previous twenty four hours.
WINDscale is currently installed in Jaywick Martello Tower, Essex and on Island6 Art Centre, Shanghai. Both these sites will be linked together with Margate during the Margate Rocks festival through video output on the project's website www.windscale.net. The web output takes the form of a daily time lapse video whose frame rate and pixellation are controlled by the speed of the wind.
WINDscale is sited on a balcony overlooking Margate and the English Channel.
