Sarah Yates & Zara Morris

Story Collectors
Audio-based Performance Work
Friday 2 - Sunday 4 May
Throughout the festival grounds

Story Collectors is a live performance that is essentially that of the people’s. Zara Morris and Sarah Yates will lead a team of specially trained Story Collectors, who will be walking through the festival grounds asking festival visitors to contribute to a chain of questions to create a part-fact, part-fiction story.

Over the first weekend of Margate Rocks 08, the Story Collectors will not only collect but also broadcast hundreds of people’s thoughts as well as the physical sounds of the festival, creating a spatial and temporal record of the event.

The Story Collectors will be easily identifiable, in their bespoke uniforms with specially designed mobile broadcasting units, which will be moving through the festival distributing and sharing the public’s stories. Highlights from the stories will also be available through this web page during the festival.

Zara Morris and Sarah Yates are interested in the formation and the growth of social networks. For Margate Rocks 08 they will investigate the temporary cultural and social platforms of the festival, observing the formal and informal relationship between art and social groupings. The artists wish to use this opportunity to work directly with the public and encourage collaborative thinking between artists, visitors and the existing Margate community.

Be a Story Collector!

Artists Zara Morris and Sarah Yates are looking for volunteers to come and help broadcast the public’s thoughts on the opening weekend (Friday 2 - Sunday 4 May).
